I am doing 2 papers for debate, and I am unsure on one of papers, about the war in iraq. I am not trying to be for it or against, cause either way our troops are over there and will need to support that, weather or not your for the war or againist. But, i do need the help, so if you know anything about the war and how it started, and why were still over there in iraq, that would be great.

  1. we are in Iraq because we believed falsified intelligence reports stating that they had "weapons of mass destruction" right after we were attacked by a terrorist organization known as Al~Queda.

many respectable people in both government and civilian positions stood up for the current administration, only to take the fall for some spoiled brat who couldn't make it in the real world so he had daddy get him into the white house.

sorry for the rant, i'll try to stay neutral: there was a string of events that led us into iraq: desert storm, the election of 2000, 9/11 plus some smaller events that all tie together.  basically, we are there because every 50 or so years this great country of ours forgets that we can't fight an -ism.

  3. As always, military foreign policy situations will inevitably become victimized by politics. Politics has a way of obfuscating the most simple of issues. But this one, as in many Mid East dilemmas,  had a gradual snaring effect upon the U.S. If you recall a little Persian Gulf history, Saddam Hussein invaded Kuwait. The U.S., together with a coalition of nations, forced him out. Conditions of surrender were arranged with his regime,  which he incessantly violated. Then came 911. Many nations were suspected, or known, to be sponsors of terrorism. Iraq was on the list. Then came the intelligence reports of WMD's  being actively pursued in Iraq. The Bush Administration was not about to let a worst nightmare occur than 911. After weighing all the reports he received, and considering the obvious hatred Saddam had for the U.S., and further provoked by the cat and mouse game of Iraqi officials constantly stalling and manipulating investigative teams sent to Iraq, by right of the previously mentioned surrender agreements between the U.S. and that country, which allowed U.S. forces unconditional search and seizure of all WMD's if suspected of being harbored there, President Bush finally gave the order to go in and take Saddam and his regime out.

We have been there since March, 2003 doing our best to help the Iraqis get on their feet and establish some form of a stable democracy. Although not very successful because of the deep rooted cultural and religious divides that exist among the inhabitants. The jihadists and insurgents from Syria and Iran killing American soldiers are complicating the mix in mega proportions. I don't know that we will be leaving anytime soon, that will depend on a number of Mid East factors. Iran being one of those factors. One thing is for sure, if we do leave now and Iranian sponsored terrorists fill the vacuum, we will be back again - and in a much bloodier conflict.

  4. we have been there at least 5 years to long and no forseeable end we could be way longer than the troops was in Vietnam
