I live in indiana and its the home of the RV...How ever gas prices are making them all dissapear. A company announces 1400 layoff yesterday. Others are closing. Its all due to the gas prices, but for me it seems that its only affecting my state, What has gone around your state? Is it were you live a place were layoffs are going around or is it just here in indiana?

  1. decades of spending beyond our means. I know it's easy & convenient to blame the current admin, but this has been a long time coming. This has been going on since the 50's.

  2. Let me answer the question you posted originally:  We're NOT in a recession.  A recession is defined as at least two consecutive quarters where a nation experiences a decrease in its gross domestic product (GDP).  I haven't seen the stats for April through June 2008, but the stats for January through March 2008 have been out for a while, and they show a slight increase in our GDP.

I live just to the north of you in Michigan.  Believe me, you're better off where you are.  Our elustrious governor said in 2006 "...and in FIVE years, you will be blown away."  The ignorant Democrat voters in this state didn't realize she meant DRIED UP AND BLOWN AWAY.  The only states that have higher unemployment than Michigan are those that are recovering from Hurricane Katrina.  And how does Governor Granholm plan on fixing the problem?  By raising taxes.  Great idea -- you're so concerned about the Michigan citizen who is finding it tougher and tougher to make ends meet, so to solve the problem you're going to take away MORE of what you already know we don't have?!?!!

Gas prices are affecting everyone.  People are being forced to spend more on gas to drive less, which means they have less disposable income (either that or they're having to make cuts elsewhere just so they can drive to and from work).  The cost of food is going up because the cost of the fuel to transport the food has gone up -- it's a vicious cycle.

The solution, according to the Democrats in Congress?  Hold on for 10 to 15 years.  By then they PROMISE we'll have developed alternative sources of fuel for widespread use.  Too bad they can't name a single one that has been shown to create more energy than it takes to produce it.  More offshore drilling?  More drilling in the ANWR?  Processing of oil shale and oil sand?  Nuclear power?  To these proven sources of energy that will make our country much less dependent on foreign oil they say NO.  And then they have the gall to blame the "evil" Republicans, who have been trying to push these incentives through Congress for over two decades, as the ones who are solely at fault for high gas prices because they're supposedly "in bed" with the big oil producers.

BOTTOM LINE:  If you want to see an improvement, stop listening to the so-called experts posturing for the mainstream liberal media.  The Democrats have had control of Congress for the last two years, and what have they done?  NOTHING BUT RUN THEIR MOUTHS.  If you want someone to tell you what you want to hear and "feel your pain" but do nothing about it, vote Democrat.  But if you want someone who will ACT, not yack, vote Republican.

  3. There are many causes, but the one I am most incensed about is how the unions caused their own destruction, and American business exported their jobs.

I lost my job because our supplier decided to source engineering plastics from China. They were happy to send inferior material to be built into so-called quality products. The China source was not an approved source; so much for quality operations under QS9000. The products failed in service, and the company was sold twice in 4 yrs.

Stop exporting jobs and processes to China!

  4. because your government has spent all your money on waging wars.

  5. Florida!  - Several years ago we were number One when it came to New Home Sales!  Now we are number One in the homes that are being foreclosed on and yes we have lots of unemployment here due to falling sales - as a result of higher gas prices and everything else costing more!

Are we in a recession? - If you are a Republican you probably do not think so - but if you are a Democrat or an Independent - absolutely!

And its going to get much, much worse before it gets any better!

    Lo Siento!

  6. *You've spent too much in Afghanistan and Iraq.

**Your President's tax cuts continually go directly to the rich, with the middle and lower classes getting screwed over.

***Your national debt is too enormous for words.

****Manufacturers and retailers have been given too much leeway when it comes to their methods of increasing revenue.  Too many companies pay very low wages or offer only part-time jobs (to cut back on salaries and benefits).  Companies have also been allowed to ship too many jobs overseas for cheaper labour.  This is happening all over, not just in the U.S..

*****High gas prices make everything more expensive - not just cars and personal driving.  Manufacturing, farming, delivery...everything goes up.

As long as these trends continue, the recession is going to continue.

  9. The American dollar is dropping in value because the foreign markets view it as being worth less and less! And they have every right to see that way! This is the republicans fault because they bail out their cronies and fail to regulate the banking and financial industries! Remember this people when you can't get gas to run your vehicle, or food to eat when you travel!  Hey Sarge what stopped the republicans from pushing things thru when they had complete control of both the House and the Senate and the executive branch for almost 8 years?
