Why are we obligated (by society) to love our siblings?

parents i can understand...they've raised us, provided for us..etc

but siblings???? we didn't choose them in our lives, then why love

we're not obligated, it's just more common to see sibs that dont hate eachother. (sure, they may fight but they dont hate eachother.) in our society, what is normal or common is idealist. so, that becomes what people expect of you.

WHO SAYS THAT WE ARE OBLIGATED?  h**l NO!  I HATE MY SISTERS & BROTHER, I HAVEN'T SPOKEN TO THEM IN 16 YRS... NOT A BIG DEAL FOR ME.........

because you grow up with them, and its only natural to bond with them. YOU SEE THEM ALMOST EVERYDAY. so like yeah.

I don't feel obligated to love my siblings at all. But I definitely love them so much! We grow up side by side with them, we go through many experiences together, many of which are the same. We share a lot of the same values and traits because we were raised by the same people. I know for me personally, no matter what I love my sisters and brother unconditionally and always will. I'm not all that much like my brother, but I still love and care about him to death, and we get along great. My sisters.. well I have a lot in common with them and they are not only sisters, but like great friends. So yeah.. I guess it all depends on the siblings themselves. Everyone is different though.

I don't understand it either. It may sound bad, but I don't buy the whole "family is family" deal. I have friends who are more of my family than my siblings are.

unless they are complete a******s to you, then you should love them! I could never imagine myself not loving my siblings! Why not love them? Is going to make it easier for you by hating them?

You are not obligated to love them......most people just naturally love their siblings, they don't do it because they are forced too.

It is sad that you have a such a relationship with your siblings that this question would need asking.

i know plenty of people who don't love their siblings.

its a cruel world.

and there over 6billion people in it. people arent going to like other people and we mine as well all get used to it.
