Question:

Why are we so worried about what's "in"?

I think it's slightly ridiculous how some people are so afraid to wear certain things they love just because they might not be "in". I understand that that is a part of fashion. Wearing what's trendy and popular for the season or current time

But shouldn't fashion be more about expressing yourself, emotions, and personality through what you wear? It should be fun! But I see so many people obsessing over what everyone else is wearing and not wearing.

I understand that no one wants to look outdated. And there are some things that no one should be allowed to wear (like booty shorts and overalls lol jk) I guess I just wish people would wear what they love instead of worrying about what other people and think and whether or everyone else wil be wearing it

Sorry, that was really long. But I'm bored and just felt like saying it lol

  2. People are idiots! Worrying about the latest trends is a waste of time, money, energy, and causes a lot of excess stress. Nobody thinks you are cool if you have the latest **** anyway because there are so many  people who are wearing the same thing. Go to the thrift store, buy what you feel the most COMFORTABLE in, but that you also think looks good on you too, and you will feel SOOO much better about yourself. I don't get why people put themselves/and their parents bank accounts through this never ending nightmare.

  3. well no thanks to YOU, now im self cautious about wearing booty shorts and overalls...

    DAM YOU =(

    hahaha jk :)

    thats interesting really.

its like, two groups of ppl,

ppl who are not effected by society, who love to wear what they want to wear when ever where ever.

and then ppl who follow the trends.

it is true, thats what fashion is all about no?

but i think that the people who wear whatever they want are actually like everyone else but the some of us [including me] are manipulated [not the best word] and changed in a way to follow everyone else.

Really, it's us who are different, not the ones who wear whatever they want because originally, thats how we were. We werent born to follow trends and know about fashion, we change as we hear about different opinions. I'm not saying its bad just different :)

something totally separate, you know the stereo typical "label" of rocker style, emo style, skater style, most of them claim not to be affective by trends. but dont they have a trend of their own? rocker style would be like, blacks, heavy make up, silver pyramid stud bangles etc, skater would be brands like : quiksilver, element, DC, and emo well i dont know much about that. but there are certain things you have to wear to be under that kind of "label"

im not targeting towards those people im just saying for example :)

gosh this is so long, i think ill end it now :) im bored also, please reply! thanks :)

  4. i like to wear what i want.

i honestly dont know whats "in"

  5. I totally agree, and I think about it a lot. "Style" really bothers me and I can't stand it when people obsess over it.

  6. I don't care what people think, I wear what I wear because I like it, and I'm comfortable in it.

I have 6 Piercings on my face, not because piercings are 'in' but because I personally like them. I think they are s**y :].

    I wear a t-shirt

    & A pair of jeans.

I never wear matching pairs of socks.

I may look like a bum but I'm comfortable.

  7. Being naked is never out of style.

  8. People are worried because if you wear crazy items, you risk damaging your self esteem because people will think you are strange.

  9. people are stupid, thats about it

  10. It really doesn't matter, people wear clothes that are "in" and feel beautiful. It's not all that bad. This doesn't mean I obsess wearing the trendy stuff. Only some days when I want to feel good about myself, you know?

  11. eh whatever. ppl just wanna be k00l duh

  12. well either your in or out... whats stopping you? your saying this based on your own feelings.. selfish!

  13. Because this is what they call Economy. If you were not so concerned lots of the every day Items we use will perish and where does that leave us then.??? Buying cheaply made product that forever break easy AKA Dollar Tree or 99cent store

  14. Totally understand. But, sometimes you need to follow a pattern to lets say "fit in". If you work at a job where you can dress casually, and everyone in your workplace is following a certain pattern of clothing, (jeans &t-shirt, or dress pants &dress shirt) you may look out of place.

  15. in Regards to fashion... look at some quotes i looked up for you

"All men want, not something to do with, but something to do, or rather something to be."

"It is desirable that a man be clad so simply that he can lay his hands on himself in the dark, and that he live in all respects so compactly and preparedly, that, if an enemy take the town, he can, like the old philosopher, walk out the gate empty-handed without anxiety."

"We worship not the graces, nor the Parcae, but Fashion."

"Every generation laughs at the old fashions, but follows religiously the new."

"I have heard of observed, the principal object is, not that mankind may be well and honestly clad, but, unquestionably, that the corporations may be enriched"

In summary... people of our culture has been sold into a sort of prison in which there is no real stability things are always changing and we do not look good for what works well for people but what works well for THINGS

in reality though this is far from the truth and you do not have to be vain in order to "fit in" people should be wearing not the latest fashion statements but what works best for them

does it keep you warm? does it represent your character? are you comfortable wearing that outfit?

I for one do not buy into fashion statements and mainstream fashion and i am very proud of it

  16. Well, to me, it's like a fun little game.

    :)

I dunno, it's fun for me. And if I wear something out of style I lose a point, or whatever.

  17. It's actually sort of psychological. Do you know the theory of Natural Selection? This attitude is actually something like that wherein the fashionable mindset is seen as the "survival characteristic" in a figurative sense. This is so because most of the time, what's "in" is what the majority is doing and this convinces your mind that it must be the safest and most secure path to take for "social survival." Therefore, it's simply in many people's basic instincts to care what's in.

Although I do wish it wasn't such a big deal. I must admit that I am guilty of this and it gets quite taxing and tiring to keep up. Ha ha!

  18. I've never followed the trends.  What's weird is how what I wear always ends up in style, haha.  I do enjoy that.  These days I work in a small office and can wear what I like and do.  Some days I wear baggy shorts and a baggy shirt and others I get all dolled up.  I honestly don't know if I'm wearing what's "in" but I do look cute and always get complemented.  Once I get my sewing machine, I'm going to start making me 50s styles dresses.  I like loose fitting things on my lower body.  Who knows, the "gored" skirt will come back.

  19. im not concered with what's "in"..

im myself and fine with it.

  20. Two words: Social Conditioning. We see fads everywhere. Society tells us that in order to fit in and be recognized, we need to conform to trends. That's how civilization functions. It's all based on collective mentality. Is it kinda stupid? Yes. But that's what we survive on.

  21. I totally agree about what ur saying....I think fashion is about trying to express urself to others without usiing words!! But this 'In" thing is held up by society.
