just seems sort of pointless to me, considering so many more important issues here on Earth

  1. Marco.........pollo.

  2. Why are you wasting time, worrying about it?

  3. We are compelled to do so, just as the Vikings left their

shores, and all the explorers that followed and eventually

    we founded America.

I think we're wired for it. We did have a race for space with

the Soviets many years ago they launched Sputnik and made

us look stupid so of course we had to get with the program!

  4. Man has always been an explorer and Mars is a land to explore.  And what is more important than learning all we can about our universe and helping mankind evolve so we can visit the stars and find other life forms.

  5. Easy answer:

    1. The spin offs form space research benefit us every day, it's arguably some of the most beneficial spending government's do.

    2. Studying Mars gives us HUGE insight into how Earth works, in fact that is the impetus behind much space exploration, every space body we study tells us something about Earth. Since Mars is easily the most earth-like planet in the Solar System, it deserves and gets a LOT of study.

    3. The amount of money spent on space exploration and research is trivial compared to corporate giveaways like farm subsidies. In fact it's trivial period, the war in Iraq has cost more than the entire history of NASA for example. It's less than 1% of the Federal budget.

In other words, space exploration costs peanuts and is some of the most beneficial-to-us-all spending  government does. If anything we should spend MORE on space exploration.

And why are you complaining anyhow? Nothing but cuts have been made in space exploration for over a decade. It gets almost no money, and less every year. There are far more important spending issues to take umbrage about. :)

  6. Because we have a surplus of money -- nobody goes to bed hungry, everyone has a great health care program, nobody is homeless, the schools are so successful that we have a 100% graduation rate, cancer has been cured, there are no potholes, etc. What else would we spend our time, energy, and resources on??

  7. Because life on earth has become so tedious and boringly

predictable, life anywhere else must be better. We hope!

  8. With high rising cost on fuel and foods.

Supermarkets must be running out on bars of chocolate Mars.

Maybe there still some up there.

    What do you think?

  9. personally, if you put it that way, since there are so many problems, i think that they could start working on other things

  10. Do you realize the inventions that came from space exploration? Everything from ball-point pens to joys sticks.

NASA has been around since 1958.

  11. I believe that they know the earth can't be fixed so the top dogs are trying to see if life can be sustained on Mars. If it can then its goodbye to all of us who doesn't have the money. Look at the futureristic pictures and how the earth looks and how the people are living. They were talking about how we are running out of food. Do you really think they want to be down here with us?

  12. My point of view, Earth will not be able to feed enough of greedy people in future. We are destroy the land and surrounding. These greedy creatures is seeking more lands and space to feed themself

  13. Ego driven projects. I do not buy the arguments that the spin off benefits would not have occurred but for space programs.

No one has gone to the moon again. why? All this c**p about colonizing the moon is just not practical. Who wants to live in diapers for such long times. Human life span is no where near long enough to cover such enormous distances.

If they can create living conditions on a barren moon with no air, why cannot they make the desserts bloom on earth

which by comparison is far less hostile for human survival?
