It's important so if they need to know if they have to leave, go another direction, or go indoors. Like sailors might have to navigate to get away from a storm. Farmers would have to go indoors if there is a bad storm of any sort. Aviators would have to go land or fly away from the bad happenings. For outdoor construction industrys, they would have to go inside to avoid injuries.
