  1. maybe they understand the way of batting.....because they r near the batsmen and they hav to interpret wat kind of shots they will do......

  2. Not true for that all WKs are good at batting. Most has to do to

with the team selection - many teams select one who has

additional batting as a added value to the team. Many wks are

not good batsman and they have played as low as #10.

One thing about a good keeper specially to spinners - these

WKs are good to at reading the ball and while batting it helps

them specially while playing spinners. WKs need good footwork

even to keep wickets - which helps them to catch the ball.

These days in order to be selected WKs know that just keeping

will not get the job. Hence they improve their batting skills

making them good at bat as well.

  3. most wicketkeepers are good at batting maybe it's because they get to see some of the best batsmen through the batsmen's view point.

We all watch players bat what we never get to see it happen through the batsmen's view point...the keeper is right behind the batsmen at times. Maybe that helps them.

    good question.

  4. Becoz the wicketkeepers are selected by batting and wicketkeeping

  5. Its not true that all WKs are good at batting.  I believe that the reole of theWK was revolutionized by Adam Gilchrist.  He has set the standards really high and now people will always compare any upcoming WK to the legend of Gilly.  And immediately after Gilly came o the scene, we had Kumar Sangakkara.  So, in this era, we had two of the best wicketkeeper-batsmen ever.  Thus, in today's world, WKs will spend more time on their batting and will have to be good at it.

A WK usually cannot bowl since he has to keep wickets and hence should also concentrate his efforts on batting.

  6. because they are comfortable in big gloves

  7. BCAUSE THEY CAN NOTE EVERY MOVEMENT OF THE BATSMAN WHILE WICKETKEEPING.THEY COME 2 KNW WHICH SHOTS R POWERFUL N WHICH SHOTS WILL END IN TROUBLEEEEEEEEEEEEE

  8. Not all are, but Adam Gillchrist was a magnificent keeper-batsman. I am a keeper myself but I am not particulary good at batting.

    Cheers=)

  9. The wicketkeepers aint gonna bowl because they`re stopping balls, so the coaches improve their batting skills.

  10. because the have to have great hand eye coordination and reaction time to be keepers

which im sure helps them alot in the batting department

  11. They aren't always.  Bob Taylor always went in at no. 10 for England.

  12. There is only one REALLY great reason. That is: the national team selectors prefer to select a wicketkeeper who isn't JUST a wicketkeeper. They try to find a player who can play diverse postions: including batsmen, and sometimes even bowling (which isn't a usual success).

There ARE exceptions to this tactic the selectors use, key example being Dinesh Ramdin, the West Indian wicketkeeper. He is a honestly a horrendous batsman in ODIs making a high score of only 74! but he has something other wicketkeepers lack,  and that is aggression. New Zealand is lucky because they have a Keeper like Brendon McCullum, who  aggressive in batting and keeping

  13. Itis not true that all wicket keepers are good batsman.  While selecting a team the team management always give first preference to a player who is a good wicket keeper and batsman rather than only based on wicket keeping skills.

Hence the wicket keepers are taking batting seriously and

improve their batting skill in order to secure a place in the team.

  14. A wicketkeeper has to do more than just wicket keep. He cant bowl, so he better be a good batsman to make the team. Who knows..he might be  a good bowler, but a better wicketkeeper. There have been many in cricket history who were like that.

  15. Hi Jay,

Wicket Keepers are even the good batsmen because they aren't allowed to bowl except some moments . So a batsmen who is also an trained wicket keeper is selected .
