Why are women considered trashy if we wear clothes that show our stomachs?

rude answers will be reported. i want answers with common sense and respect.

i understand why belly shirts are suggestive. obviously the less clothing you are wearing you are leaving less to the imagination. also you are showing wear the beginning of your crotch and behind begin because the beginning of your jeans are showing.

now, why is it trashy for women, but okay for men? most men do this because of the heat, but what if women are hot? arent we humans after all? of course some people will chose to view us only sexually, but i think if the consequence of the heat outweighs that of men's opinions, shouldnt a woman do as she pleases? men who have nice bodies and are topless can be viewed sexually also.

but what if a woman does this out of a desire to be s**y? what is the big deal? my opinion is that everyone is different with regards to sexuality and no matter how "tame" or "wild" someone's sexual choices are, we cant always understand them. but who is anyone to decide what is too s**y? if a man or woman wants to do something sexual with his/her body with no intention of hurting anyone, then what is the problem?

also, why do people blame women for being victims of abuse? when people say a woman has a choice to wear clothes that will drive men to hurt them, dont you think this is a selective theory of free will? women have a choice men dont. also, men supposedly dont have a choice with regards to physical action, and not just any physical action, but sexual physical action. take this a step further, and you could say a sexual action that takes place on a woman who has few clothes on. what sense does this make?

a few more points. i think the exposure of genitals is dangerous, so i wouldnt take this clothing issue that far. i dont blame men and i have no anger towards men.

  1. I don't mind women in skimpy shirts.  But there is a point when some women should cover up.  That point is cellulite.

  2. when people blame women for getting raped by wearing skimpy stuff, its like they way you would blame someone for getting robbed by flashing their expensive phone in a rough neighbourhood or something.

they dont mean its actually their fault that they got raped/robbed, its just that their actions made it more likely by drawing that sort of attention to themselves. a girl wearing jeans is surely less likely to get raped than if she was wearing a short skirt.

  3. you cant change what others think of your clothing, and its better to not care what they think. lots of things don't make sense.. and most of them don't because they were customs of society that have no other explanation but stereotypical ones. so what if your seen as trashy? if you are comfortable with the way that you are and you know that you are nothing near trashy, then let it be. express your self with no fear or question. just be.

  4. You have a very interesting argument. It made me think back to when it was scandalous for a woman to reveal her ankles.

This world is very double-standard indeed. It's pressed that we're all created equal, but that doesn't mean that we're all treated equally. Women in history seem to have always had a bad standing in society, which of course is quite sad and rather dumb. I'm sure there are still people out there that view women as property.

I don't know what difference there is in culture that makes it okay for for women in other countries to walk around topless, or even naked. I think we've been raised to sort of be ashamed of our bodies and our sexuality, if you will, so that this new confidence that we've acquired over time is such a challenge that people don't know how to handle it but to blame us for it.

People like to see the negative in things. They don't look at the cases where women were attacked during the day and dressed modestly. It's more of a story if it's a girl that was out late at night by herself coming home from clubbing. Then people can say, "She was asking for it." Society tries to stuff us into this modest form and they continue to try to dictate how we live.

We've been seen as sexual objects for so long that since the women's rights movement, it's still a struggle for us to be seen as people on the same level as men. And on top of that, sexuality has become such a dirty thing. Instead of seeing s*x as a good part of life and a vital part of procreation, it's become this sick thing that people are embarrassed to talk about even in privacy. The idea of s*x has been abused; it's no longer this beautiful thing between man and wife. It's just another thing we've become ashamed about.

We're just full of shame. And nobody seems to know how to have a healthy mind anymore.

  5. If only we lived in a world without men............... I guess there would still have to be reproduction but that could probably be solved somehow..

  6. sorry to sound sexist but its a man's world!
