Movie is the medium of entertainment. TV is just the device to transmit.

You can also be IN a TV show, and ON the big screen.

Also: Being IN a play, versus ON the stage. Does that make sense?

Because you're ACTING and were, at one point, physically on the set of the movie.  But you're never physically IN the TV.  Just on it.
