Why are you at risk for a DVT after general anesthsia?

Does the anesthsia cause an increase in clotting or is just because of the decrease in mobility?

  2. Not general anaesthesia. It is a prolonged surgery in a particular position .eg.Hip replacement, Knee replacement or prolongeged abdominal surgery. No pumping action of calf muscles to push the blood ahead.There is stasis of blood in deep veins of legs. Stagnation of blood initiates clotting.
