Question:

Why are you proud to be an American?

I saw a recent poll, a link to which you can find on my website www.radiowmd.com, that suggested fully 89% of Americans are either "very" or "extremely" proud to be an American.

I can remember a time when I was quite proud of this country as well. We were, after all, the first nation founded upon philosophy and revered great men of scholarship such as Russeau.

We seem to have lost our way, however. And although admiring a nation for what it once was is certainly acceptable, claiming to be "proud" of what we have become seems to degrade our heritage and cloud our potential.

I am far from proud of what America is today... I suspect our forefathers would be happy that their republic has lasted so long but would rebuke the American people for permitting it to fall into such a state of disrepair. Thoughts?

  1. You know whats great about the USA if you don't like it you can get the f* ck out.

  2. Because it's trendy.  No, seriously, I think I just evolved.  I certainly was a rebellious teenager who protested celebration of the Bicentennial in 1976.   If I could reach back in time, I would slap myself silly.

  3. I fully understand what you are saying and although you may not like the direction that our leadership has been taking us don't become so dismayed that you are a the point of surrender we can all still be proud of being Americans...

  4. Here are a few examples of why I am proud to be an American:

    1. I am a country boy raised in the southwest. We were raised on the old values. Right is right an wrong is not tolerated. Every man should be a gentleman and act accordingly. Honor, dignity and courtesy are required not optional behavior.

    2.

    I am the Guard

Civilian in Peace, Soldier in War...of security and honor for three centuries I have been the custodian...I am the Guard!

At Concord's bridge, I fired the fateful shot heard 'round the world. I bled on Bunker Hill. My footprints marked the snows at Valley Forge. With Washington on the heights of Yorktown, I saw the sword surrendered...I am the Guard. These things I know - I was there! I saw both sides of the War Between the States - I was there! The hill at San Juan felt the fury of my charge; the far plains and mountains of the Philippines echoed to my shout. In France the dark forests of the Argonne blazed with my barrage; Chateau-Thierry crumbled to my cannonade.

I am the Guard. I bowed briefly on the grim road at Bataan. Through the jungles and on the beaches I fought the enemy...beat, battered, and broke him. I scrambled over Normandy's beaches - I was there! I flew MiG Alley to the Yalu - I am the Guard! I fought in the skies above Vietnam - I was there! In the skies and on the ground, I made the Arabian desert feel the fury of the storm. I am the Guard!

Civilian in peace, soldier in war...the stricken have known the comfort of my skill. I have faced forward to the tornado, the typhoon, and the horror of the hurricane and the flood. I saw the tall towers fall - I was there!

I am the Guard. For three centuries the custodian of security and honor, now and forever...I am the Guard.

    3. See Lee Greenwood's song Proud to be an American.

    4. I am a veteran of US Coast Guard and while on Sea Duty my ship and crew were credited with almost 300 lives saved due to our efforts. During my NMANG time I served in desert shield/desert storm. I served as a cadet in Civil Air Patrol and during that time personally saved 17 lives. Military record is clean and makes me think I have done my share to protect and uplift my country.

  5. Not being one.

But proud to know their glory and honours out there.

And what the Stars and Stripes stand for.

While everyone were at loss and blurr.

On who they are in time.

With loss of identity that was lost with time.

Without being aware of it being expose after the mystery of us-911.

When little children were blindly throwing pots and pans at them.

With them at loss and blurr on what went wrong out there in time.

Had to stop further damage being done to them.

    For the good of mankind.

In making this world a better place to live in time for the little ones out there.

In the creation of peace on earth goodwill to men in time.

    What do you think?

  6. I'm proud to be an American sometimes

What makes me proud is our country's history, but alot of the decisions made today make me feel like moving to a different country

  7. I proud to be an American because eventually things will get better.

  8. I am proud to be an American because the mix of ethnicities in the country's gene pool has lead to more intelligent and capable human beings.

Unfortunately, there are more reasons that I'm ashamed to be American then there are reasons to be proud. But I won't list them, since your question didn't ask for those. :)

  9. I enjoy the privledges that come with living in the world's richest country.  But I am not proud, for pride goes before a fall.

  10. I am proud to be an American, because I have a heratige of hunters, riflemen, and moral upbringing that I am thankful for today. I was raised to work for what i own, never to waste, and to defend what is dear to me.  No, Im not proud of what we have become necessarily, but I am proud to have the American spirit and live the American dream every day. And before I am labled as closed minded, I have lived in other countries and in other continents, and have yet to expereince a life or culture that treated me better than my life in the United States.

God blessed our forefathers with the wisdom to write our founding documents, and gave me ancestors who were men and women of virtue.  I cannot say much for this generation, but I'm proud of my roots.

  11. sorry to burst your bubble but it was not Russeau but Locke, now to answer your question:

I am not only proud to be an American but to the highest respect, i am honored to be an American. I love how our country was formed on the idea of principles rather than immediate decision. i must agree with you that our founding fathers would be in a state of awe if they saw this prospering nation, but would be in a sense of saddness to see how the nation is still suffering with Progressive movement in the 1920's that time period pretty much obliterated 150 years of our national concept of Life, Liberty, and the Pursuit of Happiness all to try and create a society based on progressivism and security. but yes i am proud to be an American

  12. I am proud of our Heritage.

I am proud that we fight oppression and work towards the betterment of mankind.

I am proud that generations of our citizens have fought for the beliefs and ethics and freedoms.  Do I believe in ALL the freedoms we have today?  No..but America was established so that we could be free to make our OWN choices.

I am proud that our country stands against dictatorships, communism, and fascism.

I am proud enough of our country that I served 5 yrs in the military and felt it was my obligation to do so.   I feel to this day that it is still all males obligation to serve our country.

I feel that its time America grab itself by the collar...FIRMLY, and address the shortcomings at hand.  Poverty leads to crime and crime leads to social downfall.  Overcrowding, drugs, violent crime of packs of thugs are all signs of social disrepair and sadly, sliding decay.  Uneducated masses lead to further social issues and smart man or woman will make better choices that are better for all our citizens.

America still is great, we are free.  If we are wise and those running the country are wise, they will fight to keep our citizens that way.
