The "instructions" that came with my fish tank said to keep it out of direct sunlight. My guess is that it is to prevent algae growth, but that's just my guess.

  1. My guess is that the water will get hot and the fish will be cooked and die.

Happened to a butterfly. Kept in my bug cage in the sunlight and he was stiff and not moving so he got cooked.

  2. One is algae growth you are correct there and the other is if it's plastic direct sunlight turns it brittle and leads to it cracking.

  3. The water needs to be at a certain temperature and if you put it in the sunlight the temp. will rise.

  4. Sunlight will cause huge algae growth and it causes wild temperature fluctuations in the tank that stress out the fish or it gets too hot and they die.
