Question:

Why aren’t my web cam video files compatible with windows movie maker?

I wanted to make videos for YouTube, but Windows Movie Maker will not allow me to capture video direct from my web cam. Also, I cannot use any of my video files I created with the webcam on Windows Movie Maker.

Why is this? Is my web cam just c**p, or can I do something to fix this predicament.

Thanks.

  1. ★★★★★★★★★★★★

    Video formats supported by WMM are : .avi, .wmv, . asf, . mpg, . m1v, . mp2, . mp2v, . mpeg, . mpe, . mpv2, and .wm.

Make sure if your video is compatible with wmm.

If not, some video converters can help you, like wondershare video converter, which can convert popular format video to each other.

there is a nice tutorial about how to edit video with WMM:

I think it would provide you with something helpful.

  2. If the file types are incompatible with WMM, just look on google for a file convertor related to the files your webcam makes.

Converting them into .avi files is probably the best idea.

  3. Your webcam is just fine, windows movie maker is c**p. Now get along with with video compression format of your video capture. You must use correct video compression format. H.263 is good format nowadays. It usually has extensions like .mov,.mp4,.3gp or (.wmv in windows format). does your webcam has video capture? If yes, use it's own video capture software not Window Movie Maker and save it with the correct conmpression format. Then upload to you tube.If No, download VLC player and record using Direct show.

  4. probably...... but why don't you try to use other movie editing programs to capture ur vids and see the manual that came with your web cam to know how it works.
