Why aren't Americans any good at baseball?

Japan won the World Baseball Classic and the US were not in the top four

Korea beat Cuba in the Olympic final

Taiwan won the baseball world cup

Lots of the star players are from other other countries (Ortiz, Ramirez, Matsui)

so why are Americans any good at baseball?

  1. Americains are good and we would win the gold every time but its during when our best players are playing during the reagular season!


  2. If you look at the Olympics as just one example: How many of the players on the US team are also players are Pros in the MLB?

    How many MLB players are play on any of the US teams for any of these area? WBC, World cub, etc?...

    I believe the answer is zero.

    The tournaments you are talking about happen during the US MLB season. Players from the pros are not going to walk away from their paychecks... Basketball is different, it is the off season for the NBA right now, that is why the US team is stacked with talent.

  6. USA top stars very rarely play in international competition because of a conflict with the MLB season.  Although American players are still the best in the world other nations have their share of great players and it is nearly a level playing field these days.

  7. We send unproven minor league prospects out there to play. If we sent the major league players were sent over there the regular season would be messed up, but we would stomp the rest of the other country's teams.

  9. America is the best at baseball. You look at some of the stars in the bigs and most of them are Americans. America just won the LLWS. In the olympics the MLB doesn't allow them to send there good team which allows other teams to have a chance to win. Learn your facts before trash talking america.

  10. You are talking about a few players from other countries where in the US all the best are in MLB.  One or two players vs all the good players from one country I think you have your answer.

    Your countries education system must be pretty weak or it is your comprehension skills!!

The US lost the WBC for the same reason that the US basketball team lost the olympics in 2004, they came in and thought they had the whole thing wrapped up and never played up to their potential. As far as the other venues go, the games are played during the regular season and the US team is all minor league and college players. As far as the US team stacking up against teams form Latin America, it's a toss up. Those countries like Cuba and the Dominican Republic, baseball is the national sport. In the US, the pool is diluted by football and basketball and even soccer.

  12. In the olympics our pro baseball players don't play because the regular season is going on so we  have our college players playing against other countries pros and lose.

    In the wbc it was right before the pro season and our players probably weren't very motivated because they had the regular season coming up, and also they hadn't been practicing as a team like the other countries for as long

    we got papplebon (american) the list could go on and on of good american players

  14. Our pros are playing in the MLB regular season during most of these tournaments, so they can't compete. We mainly use college players for those.

  16. you obviously know nothing about baseball, no offense.  yes there are some great players from other countries, but id like u too name a good pitcher in todays game that isnt from the us.  plus, theyre are some great hitters.  

  17. we choose not to use are great players in international play like everyone else because they have nothing to lose we do its called injury and then you got a bunch of angry MLB fans thinking how stupid you were to put in a mlb player with that risk implied. Some teams are just pure talent like the japan they probably train like robots and never stop thinking about baseball. hope that helps you understand I mean baseball is are sport its just not as a international scene thing for us  there areto many players we have never seen before which makes it hard to win and a pretty even competion.

  18. We were not great in the Olympics because all of our key players were in the US playing for a paycheck and not for their country in the Olympics.  All other sports are represented by our pro athletes except baseball...unfortunate, but true.
