Why aren't blue bags, used for recycling in Canada, recyclable?

I've noticed they aren't marked with the familiar triangle of arrows surrounding a number 1 through 7, used to indicate the type of plastic used in its manufacture. This mark is necessary on all recyclable plastic bags in Canada.

  1. There are green recyling bags that are biodegradeable - use those. They are not made from petroleum byproducts but from plant sources. They may cost slightly more but breakdown without being processed.
