  1. Conventional cars can only handle up to 10% ethanol in their fuel.  Every gasoline station I go to has up to 10% ethanol in the fuel, so I guess they are pushing it to the maximum level possible.  As more flexible fuel vehicles are built and purchased, you will see more stations supply  E85

  2. Ethanol is mainly in the Mid West because it comes from corn and that is produced mainly in Iowa.....And only flex fuel cars can use 85% ethanol...You can't put that in regular cars but you can put the 10% in with no problem

  3. In addition to what JCS said, ethanol is corrosive. Thus car engines that are not designed for this will not function for long.  The existing pipelines, tankers, pumps will need to be different.  Production of ethanol by using corn is very inefficient.  If all of the crops in America was converted to growing corn for production of ethanol, it would still not produce enough to displace gasoline.  Finding better processes to produce ethanol from biomass (switchgrass) could be the answer, but not the total solution.  Perhaps burning biomass in electrical power plants in efficient manner for electrical cars can be another answer.  Burning biomass is consider to have zero carbon footprint as it does not increase the carbon content into the atmosphere.
