Why aren't lyrics on my iPod working?

I put lyrics to all of the instrumental tracks on my iPod so I can sing long while I listen to them, but I can't seem to get them to work anymore. I click the center button past star rating and shuffle choice and then it says:

"Lyrics detected, but unable to retreive."

Has anyone had a similar problem? How do I fix it? It does this for every song with lyrics. I have an iPod classic, 80gb.

Also, I've tried restoring the iPod back to factory settings. It did not work.

have you updated the software??  open iTunes > go to the HELP menu in upper toolbar> select check for updates from the drop down window that appears and allow it to update

you should be good to go !!
