Question:

Why aren't more people pissed that the country of Japan is hunting 1000 whales?

The hunt is happening because of a loophole in international law but if enough people protested I am sure they would stop. Boycotting products made from Japanese companies would be a great start. While I know the companies have nothing to do with it, economic pressure is likely to work the fastest.

  1. 1) I live a sheltered life and haven't really heard about it.

    2) Most things in my life that I use are made in China.

    3) I now feel bad for the whales... Save the whales.. :-(

  2. Is anything made in Japan anymore (excep some cars and weird snacks)?

  3. Because I like whale meat, it is very tasty.  This is just hunting, no different than hunting any other animal.

  4. They also hunt dolphins which is really sad.  I hear you - I've been pissed about this and the clubbing of baby seals as well.  It's great when popular celebrities bring this to the world's attention.   Write to PETA about it.

  5. that's HORRIBLE...you'd think even with that loophole, people would try to be lenient if they did hunt any whales...which is wrong in the first place

  6. It's interesting that Japan is the only one that is being boycotted here.  Norway kills almost as much as Japan per year.  No one talks about boycotting Norway.  I think I have an idea of why this is happening.

  7. Well as a result of protesting, Japan took humpbacks off the 'target' list.  This was also because Japan didn't think it was worth it to jeopardize its relationship with Australia for this.

While there is quite a bit of publicity about it, I really don't feel all that much is being done.  Apparently a lot of Japanese people don't even know what goes on, those who find out are generally upset about it.

So really, as you suggest, boycotting products, spreading the word, and making more people take action instead of leaving it up to governments... lets hope the poor whales will be left alone soon.

  8. I'm furious about this!

I think it's time we drop the economic hammer on Japan and boycott them across the board!

There is even a neat website (see link below) called "Boycott Japan" that has some detailed and interesting information on how to boycott products from Japan and get the anti-whaling message to these people.

I'm not an advocate of anyone going to extreme measures to enforce (no matter how right, just and humane) an act on another society.

In this case though I'm sick of the arrogance and disregard Japan displays to the world (be it historical revisionism in the atrocities they committed in WWII or whaling) that I think heavy handed measures should be taken.

I'd be thrilled to see the world's navies intercept these whaling ships, order the crews off, haul them into ports and scrap them.

The stance that this is a "cultural" aspect of Japan's society is a joke. These are the same people that used s*x slaves for the army as late as WWII.

  9. because most people dont care

about things that dont concern them directly.

people usually only care about their:

    stupid myspace

    bf,gf

    tv

    getting uggz

    new phones

    ipods

    ne thing materialistic

teens this new generation are getting less and less interested in world affairs

    they just dont care

i care a considerable amount about the environment and plan on devoting my life to make it better

  10. Because they don't care, in reality people are just so busy with their own lives. In America we are the only country that really care about our environment, KYOTO is based in Japan but it is only on the paper nobody does anything that is why US did not sign the agreement.

  11. i don't know about other people but it pisses me off to know they're doing usless killing, animals who can't defend themselves, and that our govt would let it happen

  12. There are numerous people who are angered by this massacre.  The Japanese are calling this research when indeed it is for commercial use.  I just received an E-Mail from GreenPeace.  They are now in a face off with the Japanese and the hull of the GreenPeace ship was rammed by the Japanese.  GreenPeace objective is to go between the whales and the grenade tipped harpoons.  GreenPeace rock!. They are really risking their lives.  I haven't heard any outrage from the Japanese people.  This is a real travesty and inane.  .

  13. I understand your concern.  Would it be ok if they farm raised whales for food like the the US and the rest of the world does with cows, chickens, pigs, deer, salmon, snails, frogs, trout, etc.?  you know the list goes on.

  14. People are and it has stopped!

  15. Human Supremacy. Were enough people to contact every Green Peace ,other organisations, United Nations about belief in Human Supremacy something might be done. Define belief in Human Supremacy the belief humans are superior to all other lifeforms believe everybody ,everything, everybeing there for own profit.  Further a measure which would not help the whales directly a measure to define genocide not just something which humans do to eachother but to animals as well. Specific cases involving an intent to kill specific groups of animals for fun as obstacles for it to be in use.

  16. I duont know why but there are many people that are serious about it

They kill over 1000. Japan kills them for 7 months  so they kill ALOT MORE>

It hasnt stopped. Hayden [ the character in heros] tried to stop the people, to stop killing them [ recently] but it didnt work out so well.

People dont seem to care that animals has feelings.

    It's cruel and sad.

    =[

  17. I LOVE WHALES!!!!!!!! SAVE THE WHALES!!!!!!!

  18. omg! i totally agree with you! its so sad. i love hayden panitere [sp?]

for tryint o save them along with the others.
