Question:

Why aren't my giant pumpkins growing?

I have had great success with the plants the flowers are huge, I hand pollenated them and got pumpkins but they are not growing, I water often what is going on??

  1. probably the heat.try shading them about 2 hours out of the day  about 2 till 4


  2. be careful not to over water them - there are bugs that bore into the tubes of members of the squash family and kill the plant.... I usually put some grass clippings or leaves around the plant to hold the moisture...it is still early yet... I drive by a nice garden on my drive to work (55+ mi one way) and the guys has some huge pumpkins plants but the fruit is only the size of a cantalope and I know he planted early.

  3. to many on one vine will also slow them down. to get even bigger they need to be spread out

It's also pretty early still?  I don't know when you planted them but I know one of my squash plants JUST started putting out.  I'd say wait it out a little, try the shading thing, maybe let it be for a little while though, plants don't need magnifying glass care to grow, it's best to let them do their own thing, nature works itself out the way it wants to
