Question:

Why aren't players like Steve Davis and Stephen Hendry dominant any more?

Is it more to do with the fact that their playing standards have deteriorated with age or is it that general standards of modern players has improved, and they've been overtaken?

  1. A few years ago,the tournament tables had their pockets made smaller and tighter. This meant you now have to be an exceptional potter to be at the very top.

Hendry is still one of the better potters,so he's kept himself up there.

Steve Davis was a pretty decent potter, and very consistent. His main strengths were his shot selection and positioning. So its made his game suffer.

They also got married (not to each other) and had kids. So they spent less time practissing and playing tournaments and exhibitions. So their games did dip a little too.

  2. That's overtaken part of it is important but it's mostly playing standards slipping with age I think, as this has always been a pattern in snooker. Jimmy White would always be a contender if he could play now like he played in the eighties. Hendry and Davis are at the more consistent end of the spectrum.

  3. well considering that davis is over 50years of age,he was still playing at this years world championship.

And as for stephen hendry he got to the semi-finals!!!!!

if you compare the amount of snooker players in the world i think davis & hendry are still dominating.!!!!!!
