Why aren't seawater swimming-pools replacing freshwater ones? Wouldn't it help to limit fresh water shortage?

  1. There isn't a fresh water shortage


  2. Since when is there a freshwater shortage? At any rate people aren't using seawater because 1. It's much harder to come by and hence much more expensive to get when you don't live right on the coast (which many people do not) 2. There is no demand for it (see 1.) 3. Fresh water is readily available and quite cheap. 4. Salt water would cause all kinds of issues with pool liners and pumps.

  5. Seawater interacts with the chemicles in pools. Salt can mix with chlorine and change the color of the poolwater!
