Why aren't the endothermic reactions managed better by computer in vehicles today?

To use water vapor to cool the reactions at precise points, allow the possibility of alternative fuels in internal combustion engines in combination with higher temperature management?

Because this is very difficult to do, not so much in the control but in the design of the engine.  It would make the engine much more complex.
