Question:

Why aren't the power window/lock switches on my car lit at night?

Whenever I am driving my toyota at nighttime, I get frustrated when I try to use my power windows/locks, and so does my family. I feel as if I am blind, grappling with my fingers just to get ahold of a switch to use it, only to realize that i rolled down the wrong window and such. Curiously, I have noticed that the word 'auto' written on the switch that controls the driver's side window is lit, but still very dimly compared to other cars I have been in. This goes for all of the doors as well, and while every other button becomes visible at night when the lights are turned on (most of them unnecessary ones like 'trac off'), even the power mirror controls are unlit, but this I can tolerate. I hate having to feel like a blind person when I drive and I am surprised that someone like Toyota that is known for their worksmanship would overlook something as important as this. I have noticed this same problem (or am I just paranoid?) in several other Toyotas and Lexuses. Does anyone else agree?

  1. I my business I hear alot of my customers complaining about the way that this was designed and on some of the vehicles where the light is not part of the switches but is just a small light that shines down on the switches, I have drilled out the opening a littler larger and this takes care of the problem.

Remember that this is only if there is a separate light and don't drill the hole very big.
