i'm very surprised cnn hasn't sent anyone over there yet. why isn't anyone covering this? i mean, Anderson Cooper usually goes and covers this stuff, but he's not there. CNN has an entire team that usually covers this stuff, they were right there in the Israel-Lebanon war a while back, but why aren't they in Georgia now?

  1. There are myriad reasons why:

    - Travel time & visa difficulties

    - Extreme danger on the ground

    - High cost

    - Difficulty getting footage out of the country once a story is shot (satellite trucks are hard to come by in South Ossetia)

I suspect CNN will get there eventually, but they won't send a crew in unless they're confident the crew will be able to safely report there. It sounds like that's not the case yet.

  2. Well, into some areas the reporters aren't allowed. Like the city Gori, now they aren't allowed to enter that place anymore.

Well, there can be many reasons. Danger is obviously one of them. But there are more.

There have been so many different news about the situation that no one really knows anymore who to believe. That has been the tactic also in the Soviet Union - hide the truth, make them believe the opposite and eliminate all the ones who can't be blinded. In the latest news that I read the Russian president said that there are almost no damages in Gori and all the other news about that is a lie. So the problem is that if they would let reporters from a country like America in, all the world would know the truth and that is probably not planned.

  3. Because South Ossetia is in ruins and at the moment it a very dangerous area. Some reporters are in Gori which is further in Georgia.
