  1. do you think the kids would actually wear them? a lot of the stupid ones wouldnt wear them

  2. I'm not sure... but i would guess that they've tested this and found that seatbelts don't do any good on a schoolbus, they are just as safe with of without them.

  3. on *some school buses they do have seat bus (ones that

transport special ed kids usully have seat beats

(although remember in accident with a car the bus will

    usually win the contest anyway)

  4. The has been an ongoing campaign to put seatbelts on buses for many years. Plenty of research and stats are available to show that many lives would be saved, but for some reason no government will make a financial committment to do it.

So the reason is it would cost too much to retrofit all school buses with seatbelts.......there you have it, the life of your child now has a dollar value in the eyes of the government.

The cost is a factor, mostly because what John C has said. When I was a kid, I wouldn't put on my seatbelt on a bus full of my friends.. I would look like a nerd and unless it was forced on all of us so no one would make fun of the others that did it, it doesn't work.

When we were very young, they had a supervisor accompany the driver who made sure everyone had their seatbelt on and fights wouldn't break out or bad behavior endangering the kids or the people in other cars as some kids did through things out of the window.. some got their toshies whipped when those impacted stopped the bus, got on and shouted at them till they cried.. I felt that was fair.. The guy was swimming in an unfinished beverage the kid threw out as a form of entertainment which caused the supervisor deal till the kids got a little older to be held responsible for their behavior and being banned from the bus if they messed up.

I've always thought why don't they have seatbelts on school buses, the question is valid, but now come to think of it, it seems having it there at a big cost wouldn't have an impact on its usage without adding an additional supervisor.

  6. the almighty $$.

You can squeeze 3 small kids onto 1 seat, so do you install 3 belts? That means you can't seat just 2 larger kids - the belts would be too small. And if you install just 2 belts, you lose 1/3 potential passengers when transporting small kids.  your busses would now have to be dedicated for specific sized kids.
