I seldom see a waiter... but always lots of waitresses, why is that ?

I think it creates a more professional image of a restaurant if there are male waiters.

When I see a place with moslty cute females I think of a cheap type of bistro, where middle aged blue collar workers go to perve on the female employee's.

I am starting to see this trend even in some of the better western restaurants.

I

'd like to see a variety of people given the opportunity to wait tables not just pretty girls.

  1. Maybe males prefer to be kitchenhand? Or maybe valets? Even after the sexual revolution, there are still some male or femal dominated jobs and I believe because of this domination, it gives the career a more masculine or feminine appeal, which is why more people of a certain gender apply for the job. I highly doubt the waitresses got there on the grounds of attractiveness alone. Perhaps they were genuinely more qualified or males are applying for other jobs.

  2. This may sound sexist but here goes.  The base pay is awfully low in most restaurants and women in the past have been paid less for the same amount of work.  Add to that a waitress seems to get a bigger tip percentage than a man entices men to go elsewhere or to a more posher restaurant.

  3. My guess is that the Men are working at jobs that pay more.  Typically, they have a "family" to provide for, while the Women are working for supplemental income.  Not always, but that's the traditional employment patterns.

  4. They cost more, concierge is implied

  5. Why is it that I see mostly male cooks?

  6. My take on that is women are generally more patient with customers and are more attentive to details. I think they are less prone to take a wrong order than a male. Another plus is women are better to look at. (that is coming from a male point of view of course)

  7. I've noticed this at every restaurant I've ever worked at. But in five years of serving, I've only seen one female cook and much more male servers. I think that when applying for jobs most men prefer to work in the kitchen as opposed to front of house. Restaurants do not discriminate when they hire because we are always in need of someone (we get a lot of people coming and going out of these jobs). And if a man applies for a server position I'm sure he would get it if he were qualified and past all of his tests and training. Maybe server jobs just appeal more to women then they do to men.

  8. thats because its not a mans job to wait on people. its a womans job!
