Why aren't you allowed to bring drinks past security at the airport?

  1. TSA is trying to limit not just the amount of liquids being brought through, but also the size of the containers. Ever since the bomb scare in the UK a few years ago, security officials realized that liquid explosives could possibly pass through. Although the rule may seem silly, it's there for everyone's good.

  2. I've been asked to throw away many a water bottle going through security. The officers have told me anything from "it could be acid" to "it could be used to make a bomb" to "don't ask questions"...

  3. Ciaobella is exactly right - ever since a terrorist plot involving liquid explosives (which were contained in plastic drink bottles) was uncovered at London's Heathrow Airport in 2006, the restriction on liquids has been in effect.
