When we came back to America, I noticed those signs everywhere where they check your passport/green card and I couldn't figure out why I wasn't allowed to have my phone on. Anyone know the reason for that rule?

  1. have fun?

i guess it could be a bomb..... i mean they got em in water bottles now, a cell phone is probably easy

  2. cell phones can be used as a detonating device for explosive charges.

  3. So things can run smooth, no stupid interruptions!

  4. So that people pay attention maybe. I am so sick of everyone being on the phone all the time - it holds lines up because people don't pay attention and are not ready.

It won't kill people to have their phones off for a bit.

  5. if someone or yourself was trying to do something illegal, like drug import or illegal entry using a phone could help them, this is a serious area, the meeting is between you and the immigration official, the rule is the same if your American or not, and while it may seem unnecessary for you, it may be for others. and the last thing they want in there is people talking away on there phone during the process

  6. If you are being questioned at the passport control and they are suuspicious of you then the mobile phones can be used to give you infomation...

ie if they are asking you a typical question of naming tourist questions in london someone can ring you with a list...

So basically for similar reasons as to why you are not allowed them in exams
