  1. because the weather isnt too warm i think.

  2. There aren't hurricanes over in California for two major reasons, one, the way the winds move will push the storms away from California and second, the water is too cool for a tropical storm.  Here is an article that talks more specifically about why California doesn't get hurricanes.

  3. its probably the winds that push the storms out than in

  4. The water is too cold to support a tropical cyclone with tropical storm force winds (62km/h) but they can experience the remnants of a storm that formed in the East Pacific which can cause flooding rains and a little wind. Also, most tropical storms  that form in the East Pacific move westward  away from land.

  5. Good location!  If you look on the weather map and see where hurricanes form, the ones that generally hit the continental US form around the western coast of Africa.  This, however, isn't the only place that hurricanes form.

The one that recently hit China was called a cyclone, same type of storm, different location.  And FYI, Los Angeles isn't immune. According to wiki a hurricane/tropical storm made landfall in 1939.  I have included the source below.

The following quote is from "How Stuff Works"

    "How a Hurricane Forms

Hurricanes form in tropical regions where there is warm water (at least 80 degrees Fahrenheit / 27 degrees Celsius), moist air and converging equatorial winds. Most Atlantic hurricanes begin off the west coast of Africa, starting as thunderstorms that move out over the warm, tropical ocean waters. A thunderstorm reaches hurricane status in three stages:

Tropical depression - swirling clouds and rain with wind speeds of less than 38 mph (61.15 kph / 33 kt)

    Tropical storm - wind speeds of 39 to 73 mph (54.7 to 117.5 kph / 34 to 63 kt)

    Hurricane - wind speeds greater than 74 mph (119 kph / 64 kt) "
