  1. The Army also uses Air Force A-10s for close air support.

  2. its not as easy as you may think, trying to track a helo while being shot at is a nightmare come true

  3. You obviously have not been on the receiving end of a helicopter assault or attack. Helicopters are extremely capable machines. Yes, they can be taken down. But if you look into the stats, you will find there have been very few helicopters downed by enemy fire. Most are due to maintenance, weather, and pilot error.

Our AH-64 Apache Longbows, OH-58 Kiowa Warriors, AH-6 Little Birds, and MH-60 Black Hawks are our enemy's worst nightmare. They usually don't even see the helicopter from which the rounds, rockets, and missiles are fired from.

    -Army Pilot

  4. The iraqis are worthless we could send doughboys in there with springfield boltaction rifles and kick their asses

  5. Thats why the person requesting CAS and all pilots have been schooled in what to do in this procedurre.

Just because you request CAS does not mean you will get it. There are many factors that come into play that both the person on the ground and the pilot must follow..

You do not just request CAS and watch the aircraft come into an area..That is not how it works but often it make appear it does work this way.
