  1. they fininshed on top for 3 years in a row meaning c**p draft picks! plus they have pig headed players. (theres no I in team)

  2. they need better passing

  3. They got a big boost when they swallowed Fitzroy but that couldn't last forever. But with a big list, they were probably concentrating on winning premierships, rather than developing younger players. Then, in the last couple of years, a lot of the older players have retired or fallen away, so this last season especially, their team was full of young players who hadn't had much experience. They'll only improve from here.

  4. i dont remember the lions ever winning anything.

  5. As some people have alluded to here already, AFL football appears to work in cycles these days. A team is successful for a period before needing to rebuild their list, mature, and become successful again.

As Brisbane had a period of sustained success, they hung on to some of their more experienced players a little longer than other clubs potentially would have. As a result, there was a lack of middle-aged yet experienced players to step-up. Now they are suffering as they have a lot of young players in the best 18.

It could be argued that Essendon experienced the same issue after their purple-patch between 1999-2001.

The other problem is, if you mis-time your rebuilding or believe you are better than you are, you end up have sustained non-success, much like Hawthorn, the Bulldogs, Carlton, and Richmond.

  6. age! draft picks.........discontent with coach...age..............complacent........

  7. It has a lot to do with the AFL draft system. Usually, the bottom placed teams get the top picks in the draft (which comprise of the country's most talented young players). so since the lions won 3 premierships in a row, they lost opportunities to get the best juniors in those years. As the older players retire, there aren't enough good players to step up and hence, they are having trouble reaching the finals.

  8. there has been trouble in the club the last 12 months with a lot of players leaving they will be down for a long time

  9. Matt Millen (their GM).

  10. they have got old and some of their stars have retired

  11. It took Brisbane years to build up a great side that took them to three winning grand finals out of four.  Then retirement, age, injury and loss of form took its toll.  Now after 2006 they have lost 11 players from their list including Michael Voss, Mal Michael and Clark Keating, all premiership players.

Don't expect them to a force anytime in the near future but they will return to a winning list once those still on the list get more experience and they recruit more good young players.

It now depends a lot on the old hands like Jonathan Brown  to be fully fit and play all season so they can be competitive with other clubs.  They will still be hard to beat at the Gabba.
