Question:

Why askers do continue here with asking about human 'race' instead of 'ethnicity'?

And why nobody does delete these questions and block the askers?

'Ethnicity' is the sociological classification of populations that share common characteristics, such as religion, traditions, culture, language, and tribal or national origin.

„The advance of medical sciences in the past century has made it possible to refute the ideas that had been used to rationalize racism, for it is now agreed within the scientific community that phenotypic differences do not constitute significant differences between human beings and it is consequently INCORRECT TO SPEAK OF RACES ...“ (UNESCO 2002)

With this document it is seriously explained that there is no scientifically reliable way to characterize the human VARIETY with the rigid terms of "RACE" categories or the traditional "RACE" concept. There is no scientific reason to use the term "RACE" further. And it's politically really not correct ...

  1. I concur, we're all human

  2. The argument against 'race' as a concept is too subtle and complicated for many people to grasp. Those who are openly biased will dismiss it as 'political correctness' (as you've seen here); many who have benign or positive intentions are still trapped in the language of the ideologies that underlie 'racial' language (especially if they are Americans - 'race relations worker' is a job title in the States).

What's needed is a charismatic populariser to spread the argument around, through a documentary, or pop science book.

I think sociological and historical argument are poorly understood, in general... evolutionary psychology seems to be the sexiest, most tv-friendly paradigm (quick, sound-bite sized concepts!).

  3. can you be more specificic? like the questions people ask about race? like me being in the hospitality industry, i was never racist, but i realized after a few weeks soooo many people fall into sterostypes...like ordering steriotypical drinks/food and leaving steriotypical tips...like a black girl orders a gin and orange juice and leaves no tip....i feel like hitting them and saying."what is wrong with you, why are you doing this?" but then i realize sterotype is for  reason. so be careful not to fall into it. i try not to. even though i am the same race as many of the stereotypes...

  4. Yes, but most politically correct stuff is a load of rubbish. So I will carry on using the expression 'human race' because thats what I am a part of. Why try to change things? Its just a word, not AT ALL racist  (haha, should I say ethnisist?) Its not offensive and the only people who would find it that way could be seen as quite narrow minded. There are so many more important things to be concerned about.

  5. get a life mate, look at the DAILY catastrophes on the news, go do some charity work in Africa, join the red cross, join Greenpeace and save the whales,do something CONSTRUCTIVE with your time, instead of worrying over trivial things such as 'race'

  6. the human race is regarded as being of one so to sepak of the human race implies we are all one.  I think you are referring to something completely different.

  7. because based on Avenue Q, "everyone's a little bit racist" :D

  8. Racism is a mental and social disease.  What ordinary people do not understand is that by merely discussing "race" or using the word "race" is acknowledging that false concept and divides humans for no good reason.  It is not enough to simply say: "I am not a racist.  I do not hate other races."  It is important also to be aware that by even saying "other races" in that way, one is expressing residual racism by agreeing that humanity is somehow divided in that way.

  9. Because not all of us have jumped on the'PC' bandwaggon!

  10. We are tribal by nature; creatures of instinct that gather in clans and seek familiarity in those closest to us. It may be a primitive trait that will eventually play itself out of the species or it may be something completely different that nature installed for undiscovered reasons.

Example: Two dogs meet, one very large, one very small. Instinct immediately takes over. Neither observe (or even recognize) size differences but only that each is a dog. Ritual occurs as they use their olfactory senses to 'sniff' out fear, gender and recent history.

Humans use eyesight rather than smell to identify other humans. Skin color therefore becomes an identifier for difference or similarity. It's a tough habit to break.

perhaps we will eventually outgrow it.

    --------------------------------------...

I used dogs as a means to define the concept of how humans apply eyesight to identify like dogs use their noses. How they are bred has no bearing.

From reading your question and now your comments since, I have to wonder if you don't already have an answer to your own question that you are trying to lead everyone to?

You cannot legislate thought, you cannot make people love and respect everyone. It's impossible. The best we can do is to set good examples through trying not to fall back upon our most primitive instincts and rising above our natural tendencies to be judgemental on any of a hundred levels... race being but a single example.

If you want to be accepted, you have to be ready to accept. Boiled down to a puree', keep an open mind, observe those around you and find truths not from one example but out of many.

    best wishes :)

  11. Humanity is a species in its own right, while there are other species with similar characteristics we are not a sub set of a species we are a species.  We are a race.

Too often people try and weedle out of a charge of racism by claiming they are attacking an ethnic group that is technically not a race in its own right.  Language evolves.  Racisim *is* a valid term for any discrimination against *any* ethnic group.

As a staunch defender of PC I will attack any attempt to embelish it with half-baked concepts.  If it's stupid- it ain't PC!
