  1. The Sun, is the gravitational force, behind their orbit.

  2. The gravitation of the earth is many millionths as strong as the gravitation of the sun, Sol.  So, the sun attracts most of the wayward asteroids.  Still, tons of asteroid material is pulled to the earth, and burns up in the earth's atmosphere, or hits earth each day.  Besides Luna, our moon which splashed out of the Pacific Ocean after being hit by a Mars sized asteroid, there are two asteroids that follow the Earth, and actually qualify as additional, though very small, moons.  One is 3 km across and the other is 100 meters across, the smaller asteroid/moon has not yet been named.
