Why attempting to speak in American/British accent can be a funny thing?

I mean,just look at Youtube where there were many British people(esspecially girls) trying to speak in American accent and the commentaries that they've got is that it sound so typically goofy,Californian 'Valley Girl'-type of accent where most Americans try to avoid that while the Americans try to speak in British accent,and they tend to speak it in a sort of 'Posh' style where the Brits themselves hate to speak like that since it tend to sound like a hick.

So,what do you guys think about this issue?.

  1. I agree.  It is funny, especially when someone attempts to fake an accent based on what he has heard from television or videos, rather than from real life interchanges in a specific native environment.

    My personal favorite is a Southerner attempting to speak in a New York accent.  Or, vice versa.  It is hilarious.
