  1. They aren't always painted black.  I worked for over 40 years in thermal power plants and never saw one battery room painted black. In this period I saw  battery rooms in at least 10 power plants across the US and none of them were painted black


  2. Is that really true? If so there should be a specification or code for it somewhere.

  3. battery room of a thermal plant or battery room used for other pupose like UPS is generally painted with an acid proof paint, to avoid crossion from acid fumes of the battery, the paint used for the walls of the room may be black, as it contains bitumen in it  

  4. Thermal means Heat, and black colour is good Absorber  of  Heat,
