Why is it that people answer homework help questions with 'Do your own homework,' as if these self-righteious micro-lectures will convince a lazy student to stop cheating and discover knowledge for himself.

The forum gets abused, yes, but students get wrong or unhelpful answers more often than they successfully cheat. Any teacher with any experience can spot homework suddenly written by a grad student four states away.

I only write "do your own homework" to the ones who put their

homework questions in another category besides homework questions.

You're right.  Anyone who answers a question in This section by saying "do your own homework" IS a sanctimonious f**t.
