I can almost understand the vegetarians. maybe you dont like taste of meat or dont like killing animals and thats fine but the vegans blow my mind. no milk or eggs. so no cake cause theres animal products in it. no pizza no butter. its not like they kill the cow to get the milk. in fact a milk cow will die if you dont milk it. its utters will explode killing it! should we just throw away the milk? basically what I am asking is why be a vegan?

  1. Vegans can eat cake, pizza and butter etc. Its really easier to find vegan butter, or just use margarine (its almost always vegan). In fact, i had pizza for dinner last night, and it's my birthday next week, so i'm going to celebrate with a really chocolatey cake (yes it tastes good).

Fact: A cow will not die if you don't milk it. It's udder will NOT explode! We should not "just throw away the milk"

Cows are Mammals. What does a mammal do? Makes milk for ITS BABIES, not another species. Cows have udders so their calves can drink the mother's milk. But instead, the calves are usually killed after 5-10 days of life and turned into veal. Or are sold at auctions to become beef cattle if it's male, and if the calf is female, it will become another dairy cow in about 6 months.

So we would not throw away the milk. The animals that are supposed to drink it, would drink it. Cows milk is for Cows

Can you imagine drinking dogs milk? Well drinking cows milk is really just as weird. There is also a lot of cruelty (which i won't go into, watch earthlings if you're intrigued) in the dairy/egg industries.

I'll be honest and say that i'm not completely sure of why vegans don't eat honey. I heard something about cruelty, but I don't know. I don't eat honey because it tastes disgusting

  2. I am Vegan because one day people will look back upon this time in history and consider humanity barbaric because of how we treated our fellow beings. Animals are not here for our exploitation or use or abuse. They are sovereign sentient beings who deserve to live out their lives free from our interference.

Vegan is not extreme, it's the rest of the world who isn't Vegan that are extreme. vegan is no more extreme than anti-slavery is extreme. Our ancestors who proposed that all people should be free to choose their own life were considered extremists. Vegans are today's abolitionists. Our country once fought a war partially based on abolishing slavery, and one day I expect there will be wars fought over animal rights as well.

Once we all stop using animal products eventually there will be no more domesticated animals. We chose to influence their evolution through selective breeding to create perversions of nature, and we must undo the damage we have done. It will take quite a few generations, but we can do it.

Being Vegan is the only truly compassionate way to be. Anything less is just fooling yourself. I'm not an extremist, I'm just ahead of my time, and y'all need to catch up :)

  3. obsessed with animal rights

  4. Well, tones of folks are vegetarians because they don't like "killing", but the thing is that milk and eggs are responsible for more suffering than beef.

If you REALLY want to know why someone would bother considering veganism, you could watch Earthlings but it's not an uplifting film. That's why it motivated some people.

I don't know if you're aware of this or not, but modern "farming" is nothing like "ma n' pa" used to do it. It's actually quite grotesque even in the way the animals live day to day.

    =============

Vegan cake, pizza, or even donuts(no you can't tell the difference) exist.

Cows will not explode if not milked. That's just ridiculous. If my wife stops breastfeeding, she wouldn't explode either.

Cows are killed after just a few years even though they can live 20 years or so. This is because they don't produce as much milk after a very young age.

If you really enjoy meat, I suggest hunting because most people would not support the way that animals live and die for commercial meat products.

  5. It's a personal choice. Why does it bother you so much?  No one said you had to be one.

  6. You are right about them dying if they are not milked. BUt The cows mostly have milk after having a calf and the take the calf away. Factory farm dairy cows are injected with hormones to make them produce more milk, and when they can't produce any more milk, they are slaughtered. Factory farm chickens are kept in tiny metal cage that are slanted so that when they lay an egg, it rolls away never to be seen again. The male chicks are ground up and made into chicken feed, and the female ones beaks are cut off.

  7. Woo there buddy, perhaps you need to return to biology class....

"if fact a milk cow will die if you dont milk it. its utters will explode killing it!"

    Who told you THAT ?

The fact is, cows produce milk for thier off-spring, they only need milking because we turn thier off-spring into dog meat.

If we left them alone, cows would be fine.

Here are some other issues with the milk industry:

    Artificial incemination every year

Cows would naturally calve every 2-3 years. Dairy farms artificially inceminate them every 11 months. This causes excessive stress on the cows body, increses the chance of prolapse and generally "wears them out" in a few years, rather than a natural 20 years.

    Protein enriched feed

The feed they are given is enriched with artificial growth foods. these are generally made with cattle meat protiens.

In the USA and some parts of Australiasia they use a hormone growth agent called recombinant bovine somatotropin. Its brand name is POSILAC® and its made by Monsanto. This increases milk yield and beef growth. This is a synthetic hormone. Its banned in the EU since 1988

The main mechanism these hormones work is by re-directing dietry nutrients from peripheral body tissue to mammary glands. effectively, they are slowly killing the cow.

70% of US cattle are injected with this growth hormone ( 2007 stats ) that the majority of the world will not entertain because they believe its too dangerous.

    Bribe/feed caged carousels

These suck. They are large rotating carousels where the cows are caged in a space where they cannot move. They have "black boxes" on thier legs which communicate with the main operating computer. They are fed just the right amount of food depending on how much milk they gave yesterday. They have added growth food if thier production drops

One person can milk about 400 cattle on a carousel so there is no time for checking the animals health - they just milk them dry and kick them out.

killing bulls, excess calves and free martins at 1 week old

All bulls are killed at 1 week old, although some farms iin the UK started ( in 2006 ) shipping them to Continental Europe for veal again. They do not keep any back for breeding as they bring in new blood lines. In the UK we don't use dairy bull calves for veal anymore in country. They are either killed, or shipped out. Bull calves go to make low quality leather products such as cheap sofas.

They kill all free martins as there is a good chance they will be barren.

Strangly, they feed these animals with colostrum at birth to keep them alive, but then kill them a week later.

excess feeding to produce 60 lites of milk per day

The growth food is all designed to produce excess milk. Cows are naturally designed to produce about 15 litres. The european targets for 2009 are set at 90 litres, i don't think it need me to tell you if this is heading the right or wrong direction.

intensive rearing means low husbandry checks

As mentioned above, most automatic dairies have one milkmaid per session, thats it. I know a dairy farm with 1200 cattle and 3 employees. Tell me how they can ever check the cattle....

removing calves from mothers after colostrum feed

This is stressful, cows bawl for weeks for thier young, calling them to be fed. Obviously the calf cannot "run to mom" because its in dog food by now.

killing the cow at 7 years old

Cows can naturally live to 20 years old. Production dairy cows are killed after 4-6 births so are never kept after 7 years old.

    Hope that helps.

  8. hummm thats like a reallly strict vegan

i just dont eat meat  dats all lol

  9. theres nothing wrong actually about being vegan once you put some research effort into because some people choose to go further by eliminating all animal products and people live perfectly healthy lives this way.People have been brought up so long to think we NEED animal products to survive when in reality people were never designed biologically to consume animal products (why do you think there are lactos intolerent people in the world they cant handle the dairy) i used to think being vegan was crazy myself but then i started to do some research on it and decided its actually really good fro you and trying to become vegan myself

  10. I think it's not necessary to be vegan to be ''green'' ethical and animal-loving.

Vegans argue that a lot of people are intolerant to dairy products, and that cows milk is for their baby rather than humans, and that every egg is a potential life. Also, a lot of vegans follow or try to follow microbiotic idea of diet and health.

and it's not their abstance from eggs and milk..etc that amazes me as much as their opinion about eatting honey!!

If you think vegans are extrem... check out ''raw foodists'' LOL.

Personally i'm a vegetarian because I think it's not necessary to kill the animals to live. I get my protein from eggs, dairy products and beans. It's not like we HAVE TO eat pork and chicken to survive or something!!

  11. Because just to avoid eating foods with bad cholesterol.

  12. Well people aren't just vegetarian (usually) because they are boycotting eating the meat of animals that have been tortured and treated cruelly.

So vegans are just doing the same thing since the animal products come from the same animals that are being tortured. And sure cows make milk, but I mean, we give them hormones to make more and suck it out of them even though they have to calves and that's what they do their whole life. Unless you are eating kosher.

Vegan is extreme, but that's the point.

  13. I have no clue.
