Question:

Why bet the max amount when taking odds in craps?

On all the information i read about playing craps it says that whenever you make an odds bet, be it on the pass line or behind a "come" bet, that you should always bet the maximum allowed. The casino that i play at has $10 minimum bet and X10 odds, which makes it very difficult for me to bet the maximum. Normally i play $10 on the pass line, and then i usually make 2 come bets at $10 each. So if i was to max all those bets with X10 odds behind them, i would have $330 out on the table.

I realize that if i put out less than the max odd bet behind it, that i will make less money when it hits. Is there any other negative result to putting less than max odd behind my bet?

I just cant afford $330 on each new toss of the dice should i hit a bad streak.

  1. u dont have i cany afford to play like that either statistically odds bet are best beacause its the only bet in casino where house has no edge on u. the odds of 6 or 8 coming before 7

    reallt are 5/6

    5or9 3/2

    4or10 2/1

Although less fun the odds againt the dice are marginally better ( the original dont bet ) and its true odds when u lay odds

The only situation in a casino when u have the edge is high count in black jack or if u can do dice control

  2. They tell you to play max odds because statistically it lowers the house edge the most and provides the player the best chance of winning. This is the best strategy for most people to play, but assumes you have a virtually unlimited bankroll and/or low enough tables limits that you are comfortable placing this bet.

Obviously, you should never play more than you're comfortable betting. Even with the odds, the house still has an edge over you, so you're going to lose in the long run. Putting more money that you can afford to lose on a bet that's not going to win you any money in the long run doesn't make a whole lot of sense.

Anyway, just the pass line (or don't pass) with no odds is one of the best bets in the casino, and just single odds will lower the house edge below anything you could achieve playing any other games (including blackjack or baccarat). If you only want to have $30 on the table at a time, my advice would be to make a $10 pass line bet and $20 odds, and skip the come bets altogether.

  3. i don't think you should take maximum odd but you should take some odds on your bet.  also i think it's best to only have 3 bets going at a time.  if you have money on the pass line, then maybe make 2 additional come bets or 2 placed bets.  good luck!!!

  4. It is true that placing your odds bet is the best bet on a craps table.  Theoretically, you would want to put as much money on there as possible.  However, the practical side is much different.  You already acknowledged the fact that you can't afford to put down 10x the odds.  If you had $100,000 then there wouldn't be any reason for you not to put up that money.  However, with a limited bankroll, you'd be putting all your eggs in one basket.   It's an issue of bankroll management.  Sure you won't win the max you could have if you did put the max odds.   But by that logic, why not play for $50,000 a roll?  You can win a lot by betting $50,000 a roll.  But why wouldn't you?  Because you can't afford to and it's outside of your bankroll.  That's an extreme example but the point is the same - whether it's $50k, or $330, you need to play within your bankroll limits.  The issue really comes down to bankroll management.  The theory I've always played with is to play with 10x the amount of my max bet on a single roll.  So if I have a $10 Line bet, $20 odds bet, and a $12 placed 6 and 8 bet, the total would be $54.  I want to have 10x that ( the theory behind that being that on average, one in ten rollers is a "hot roller").  You want to have enough to play exactly the same way until that hot roller comes along.  If you don't, it might be the case that when that hot roller comes along, you didn't have enough money to get the most from it.
