This topic seem like not related to vegetarian, but vegan/vegetarian most likely use artificial sweetener, so I posted here:

This is the site sponsor by big company

http://www.aboutaspartame.com

They claim that "The body breaks down aspartame into the same components that are found in everyday foods."

But other site talk about Methanol in apartame:

"Methanol breaks down into the well-known carcinogen, formaldehyde, formic acid and a brain tumor producing substance called diketopiperzine (DPK)."

So who is correct?

  1. because its cheap, and they want money, making you think its is better while infact is might cause cancer (but what dosent these days?)

  2. Dont use artificial anything. Its man made and therefore is unnatural. Ofcourse the "big companies" want to put a label over it as safe! That will only increase the size of their pocket books. They do not care if it is really "safe" or not. Anything to get you to buy it you bet they'll do. All they care about is their continually increasing their pocket books and power they have over the population.

The government is doing nothing about this what so ever.

  3. not all vegans/vegetarians eat sugar unless it was made from sugar cane and artificial sugar is bleached down and from what you had said, that sugar is not good for you in the first place sinced you said it could give headaches or any kind of dizzyness.

  4. Go with the American Cancer Society website. It is scientific, reputable, and references the original articles so that you can read for yourself. http://www.cancer.org/docroot/ped/conten...

The Mayo clinic also says it is safe. http://www.mayoclinic.com/health/diabete...

It is not just big companies. It is the general scientific opinion that aspartame is safe.

i would not trust the pacific health one. Firstly, it is selling things. Never a good sign. Secondly it doesn't cite any of the "studies" it mentions. It seems like it misquotes, and takes things out of context as the figures it uses do not agree with the general scientific opinion. Also the qualification that the author has, "clinical nutritionist" doesn't mean anything. The name nutritionist is not legally protected, so anyone can call themselves one. They need not have any scientific or university degree. You have no idea what kind of background this guy has, or how qualified he is to make these statements.  Plus I don't trust any site that fosters conspiracy theories and says the government is out to get us. Thats just silly talk.

ON the other hand whilst the aboutaspartame site is undoubtedly sponsored by a big company, at least you can see their sources, and they cite major studies in detail and you can read them for yourself and make your own evaluations.

I would go with aboutaspartame as being more reputable, but American Cancer Society as better as they are independent.

  5. Artificial sweeteners are very questionable, but the manufacturers want to sell their product, so of course they will try to make them seem harmless.  I don't think it's a good idea to use them on a regular basis.  Children should never consume them.
