Ah t'ink the airport looking better than it was in the early 80's? Is it just more financially feasible for Virgin and BA to land in Tobago?

  1. Well, ah will tell you that BA used to fly to Trinidad a long time ago...and they have started those flights again. You can get BA out of POS now. All due to we chupiddy gov't selling we nice good queen given spot in heathrow...and decide to code share with BA. But it is true....that most europeans would rather go to Tobago or other caribbean islands rather than Trinidad because of the robinson cruesoe, ship wrecked image. And the fact that alot of them own homes there as well. In terms of feasibilty ...it is better for these "Big Planes" to go directly to the destination that the europeans want rather than come to Trinidad and then clog up the Tobago flights which already is stress.

  2. Not sure why cause you can book flights on both of those airlines that will land in Piarco(online that is).

  3. " deh fraid when dey land dey ain't wah go back" lol

  4. It could be that:-

    1.  Tobago has a better (smother, no cracks, bumps, lumps etc) Runway

    2.  Tobago is more of a tourist attraction

3.Tobago has a more quieter airport hub

But It is nice to see when big planes land at Crown Point - The Plane is three to four times bigger than the terminal itself

  5. Most people who come from Europe are on vacation and really dont want the hustle and drama of a captial city like POS.  and sinceTobago is the tourist hub of this country, with the infrastructure and accommodation required for large inflocks of people. Tourist have every thing for an enjoyable vacation in a relatively close area.  in addition the beaches are right there, outside most hotels. Trinidad on the other hand is more business oriented.

An since international airlines cannot fly on the domestic route ie Trinidad to Tobago vice versa, then its simply easier to land in Tobago where Tourists can be catered for.

Which is why BA, Virgin, Zoom etc dont fly to Trinidad.

BA no longer lands in Trinidad, Tobago yes, but not in trinidad.  and i should know, we give out the licence for they to fly to this country! So unless they on a stealth mission, get diplomatic clearance, flying with no lights and not contacting ATC, then they cant land in Trinidad.

  6. I know BA lands here! Trinidad is underselling itself when comes to tourism, but l hope the Tourism Ministry does something soon. When l go to the other islands l know they have "sun, sea and sand", but not all tourists care about that anyway so with all the attractions that Trinidad is blessed with l think it's time they wake up and do something because "the oil and gas" aint go last forever!

  7. I wanted to kno the same ting, i does see british airways 747 in T'go but none in Trini.

Now that I think about it, is probaly cuz europeans come to Tobago more, since Tobago economy is based on tourism.

  8. Just as a few have posted above.  The majority of people really want to go to Tobago.  Most of the tourists go to Tobago, the only exception to that is during Carnival time.

I had a friend who worked in the airline business and they said that on Bwee's flights to the Trinidad (they always had a stop in one of the islands before they reached here) the whole plane load would get off in the other islands and the plane would arrive here virtually empty.  The only time that changed is for Carnival and they said the majority of those people were what the airline business calls VFR (visiting friends and relatives - some connection to Trinidad).

So I guess the short story is that there maybe isn't a market for it to justify a flight.  Airlines will only fly somewhere if it is profitable.  If there is no profit in it - they ain't flying.  Only Bwee had to do it because it was based here.
