Why boycott the Olympics?

I completely understand why people are are looking to boycott the Olympics as a means to punish China, but isn't there a better way? The athletes that participate in the Olympics have been training for years to be in their events, they come from all over the world, and I would be willing to guess none have had anything to do with China's treatment of Tibet. They also had nothing to do with where the games are being held. I

Instead of boycotting the Olympics boycott all the c**p they sell in this country that was "made in China"!! Hit China in their wallet by boycotting their products and support the athletes of the Olympics. Do not buy anything made in China!!

  1. i totally agree with you 150%!!!

i totally disagree with all their ideas of boycotting the olympics.it is a real letdown for all the athletes...my older brother was supposed to compete for the 1980 olympic games in russia.but since our country to boycott the games...his dream was lost.even though many years have passed and he has earned a commonwealth medal plus many other world events...he still thinks of the one that he lost...i feel sad and wish i could turn back the time for him...i see the excitement that he brings when he talks about the olympics and his experiences competing among the best of the world to his students now...but i know that somewhere deep inside of him ,he has such sadness,a feeling that makes him feel uncomplete...

so let the games go on...do not boycott it.there are a lot more ways of hurting china and make our action hurts where it really will make a huge difference!!!

thank you so much for asking this question = )

  2. Tibet is not considered sovereign by any country, the UN or the Dali Lama himself. China has 3 autonomous regions (we call ours territories) and they have a right to put down rebellions in as much as we do and we have done so in the past.

  3. I agree with the no buying anything made in China. Have you actually checked out how much stuff is made there.  Amazing and scary.    They should never have been chosen to begin with for the Olympics.  Too bad they cannot just up and move them someplace else.  You don't need all the fanfare and getting ready for four years to put them on.

  4. The real villian here is the Chinese communist party, and not the Chinese people. The Dalai Lama supports the games in Beijing, because he is a man of peace.

We should support the common man in China who is a victim of his government.

Trying to boycott "all the c**p" as you put it, is an idea that is

not possible because of the very wide range of stuff China makes. It's not just the little cheap toys but it's your Ipods,

Prada bags and thousands of component parts that are within most computers, and cars and all sorts of stuff you never thought were made there.

  5. I like the idea of boycotting just the opening ceremony, it doesn't punish the athletes. But otherwise there are plenty of similar situations in the world. What about Western Sahara or West Papua, or Chechnya? And does anyone think of boycotting Morocco, Indo or Russia?

  6. i think your opinion about china is excessive. The tibet problem is a one cause of a problem. I give you a suggestion for don't too excessive.

  7. there are several ways to embarrass china.

first the athletes can wear tibetan flags or colors.

or the heads of state can miss the opening ceremonies

or we as a people can attempt to boycott chinese made goods...which is almost impossible.
