Why can people see Obama as president and not the first black president?

Why does his race matter?

I,m a republican. I,m not voting this year because I don,t like the democrats or Mccain.

  1. I think that it's just because of his race that people are really paying that much attention to him. Either way, both parties are going to be making history (first black president OR first female vice president).

  2. Because he's a lying, liberal socialist scumbag, who stands for every rotten cause, plus he's not qualified, except for talking the talk.

  3. Because he just isn't qualified or has what the majority of voters want in a leader.

Besides----"...turn out the lights , the partys ooooverrrrrrrrrrrr"

( to the tune of "turn out the lights the parties over" )

  4. I understand what you're feeling 100%, but you've got to vote. I am sick to my stomach too about this. But we've got to try to take some responsibility as citizens and do the right thing.

  5. no matter what people "see" now....in november, they will be looking at our new president elect obama. so they should get used to it now

  6. Sure your a Republican.  I refuse to vote the most liberal, socialist President this time around...I voted for the Clinton's, because they were moderates, but this guy is no moderate

  7. I guess you could ask Lynn Swan former Pittsburgh Steeler and an African American, he states he has sat on the board of two major companies and the decision he would make on the scale of the presidential election he would look at the person who had the experience. And that person is John McCain and he would and will get his vote.

Northern mi and African Americans for John McCain.

  8. Why can't I see ' where they are supposed to be.

  9. i can..don't care if he's black, blue purple or gray...actually, isn't he sorta gray?   no matter...

  10. Personally I think having Obama and the Democrats in power would be the best thing that could happen for America and the world.  Who can honestly say that they're happy with the Republican view on Iraq?  At the last election there was much made of how unhappy Americans were with Bush and the war in Iraq, but they voted him in again.  They have the chance to change it at last, but it wouldn't surprise me if they vote the wrong way once more.

  11. His race doesn't matter - he's just the same old liberal.  Truth is if he weren't black he'd be nothing and no one would ever have paid him any attention and we'd have Hillary as the dem candidate.

  12. For me...he is a symbol that our country is changing.  He is a symbol that our country is ready to give the boot to all these crotchety old people that have been trampling on our constitution and taking away rights.  But he's not just some black guy...he really does represent a wide variety of people and has a clear respect for ALL points of view - NOT just his own.  he wants to REPRESENT Americans and compromise on issues so everyone can live peacefully together instead of the polarized bull-headedness of the past 8 years.  And anyway....if we wanted just any black guy...why wasn't it Al Sharpton or Jesse Jackson?

I love how Caitlin points out that it has "nothing" to do with race but then points out that it's his middle name, and therefore his cultural ancestry!!  I'm so glad it's based on issues!

  13. OK, let's try this approach:

A couple of years in the Super Bowl, the Colts played the Bears. Both were coached by African Americans.

When the Colts won, Tony Dungy was asked about being the first African American to win a Super Bowl as a coach. He said his first thought was about those who came in the past that never had the chance to have that distinction.

But, of course, color didn't help him on the football field that day. And he'd be the first to say that.

In my lifetime, we've gone from turning fire hoses on African Americans to nominating one for President. That's progress. But the Presidency isn't an affirmative action position. We vote for the best candidate for the job. And we'll see how this turns out.

  14. In my opinion it has NOTHING to do with race.

Obama as a whole is just very UN-American

His middle name is Hussein for goodness sakes!

&& just to throw it out there...

Jesse Jackson, a very well known civil rights advocate, said he wants to rip his nuts off.

When someone of the race as you, whose job is to fight for the rights of your race, doesn't like you.. there's a reason =D

  15. His race matters because people still see it and because he himself touts himself as black when he is actually only 50% black.

  16. His race only matters to racist people.  I don't care about his race at all.   That dude has as many different cultures in his immediate family as all of NYC.  Who cares?

As long as I don't have to look at another Bush fumble over speeches and make idiotic statements like a bad sitcom I'm happy.

  17. because they can't--they bring it up constantly--they hold him up to standards no other candidate it seems has or will be--so you tell me

    why they're doing it.

it's because he's the first black--and they are afraid.

i see it everyday--everywhere--just plain old afraid of the unknown.

really stupid, and he was educated at Harvard--how dumb can a person be not to judge him on himself--but you MUST FACE THE HISTORICAL RECORDS--FIRST BLACK--IT IS HISTORIC AND IT'S A FACT,

SO THEY ARE LOOKING AT IT.

    SADLY, IN THE WRONG WAY.

  18. I do. He's like a breath of fresh air. Bush, be gone!!

  19. Blasphemer

We are all to believe in Obama and he will save us,

oppose him and you shall be condemned

  20. South Park put it best...

"Well you see Stan, its ALWAYS between a giant douche and a **** sandwich."

  21. Then I guess you are smarter then most to sit out ,unlike thoses who dont know what is going on and make up some reason to like the other one better and it s a poor reason to vote for someone you dont know about because you like their name etc better

  22. Because he is 47 years old with very little experience...
