Why can't Bella, in the Twilight series by Stephenie Meyer, just choose a guy, Edward, or Jacob?

Bella is always like, "I like Edward, now I like Jacob, now I like Edward, now I like Jacob." Why doesn't she just pick one? Is it just me, or is Bella messed? In 'Eclipse', when she "escapes," why is she holding hands with Jacob? She says that they're "just friends," but she knows that Jacob doesn't feel that way about her. Can anybody help me understand this? Who do you like, Edward, or Jacob? Why? The best answer will recieve the best rating. Thanks!

Erm, well in Breaking Dawn, Bella kinda forget about the whole Edward/Jacob fight! We all know that in the end Edward won, but when Nessie grows up...Jacob can say 'I made out with your Mum' Ew!!!!!
