I hear about solitary pagans and Wiccans but all the churches I ever went to and all Christians I know say you can't do this as a Christian. Why not?

  1.    Because they have to have people to tell them what to believe, and which bible verses to take literally and which ones to ignore.

  2. Because those who have told you this have never heard of anchorites (female term "anchoress") or hermits. Google "Julian of Norwich."

Christian anchorites are not very common these days but they do exist. However most groups know that going it alone can lead to strange ways of thinking, since Christianity is about community.

  3. Cos their priests r convicts.

  4. Simpl and short bible answer Hebrews 10:25 states that we should not forsake the assembling of ourselves together as is the habit of some, then goes on to say that we should assemble and encourage each other even as we see THAT DAY approaching.

We are suppossed to recieve and give encouragement to each other as Christians and it is easier to worship with each other. There is no example of a solitary Christian in the bible but the bible does say that whenever two or more are gathered together in my name I will be there with them.

The infrence there is Jesus will be with two or more when we gather in his name. the bible is silent on one person goint it alone.

  5. Hermits live their lives as a solitary except for Mass. Many monks do to a degree too.

  6. Actually - for many years I considered myself something like a Solitary Xian - then I just got sick of all the Zealots & bigots who couldn't even handle that so I looked elsewhere.

[An off topic PS - the only Vernon I've met before was a ex-Kiwi who used to live in SE Qld. Nice to see another one]

    .

  7. You can. However the Bible tells us to meet together as believers and to encourage one another.

Hebrews 10:25 "Let us not give up meeting together, as some are in the habit of doing, but let us encourage one another—and all the more as you see the Day approaching."

As members of the body of Christ, we belong to each other.

Romans 12:5 "... so in Christ we who are many form one body, and each member belongs to all the others."

Christ's body is made of many parts, yet it is still one unified entity. When you give up on attending church, what's at stake? Well, to put it in a nutshell: the unity of the body, your own spiritual growth, protection and blessing are all at risk when you're disconnected from the body of Christ.

1 Corinthians 12:12 "The body is a unit, though it is made up of many parts; and though all its parts are many, they form one body. So it is with Christ."

  8. Because the puss always ends up in a boyle.

  9. Well, it's harder to remain a Christian without fellowship with other Christians.  Besides, people tend to start relying on their own interpretations of Scripture, and this causes more splits in Christianity.

However, I do not attend church, and I don't fellowship with other Christians in "real" life, mostly because I just don't know any other Christians, and there are only four English-speaking churches over here (two are Baptist, one is Protestant, and one is Catholic.  A chaplain leads the two latter services).  I do just fine.

  10. Man is a social animal, and it is very difficult, (which is to say practically impossible) to hold a view without social support.  However if you believe in Scripture, and the Savior of Scripture, YAHOSHUA, you will find you are almost solitary.
