Question:

Why can't England have its own parliament?

Scotland and Wales have one each, what's wrong with England having one? I'd prefer the UK to be united but if the Welsh and Scots prefer to go it alone then fine by me. It's just that England isn't allowed to celebrate St. George's day or anything but we celebrate St. Paddy's day in style. Any extra chance for a holiday or whatever is okay by me as well, anything for a bit of enjoyment. All the current English government care about is the South East, what about the rest of England? Would an English parliament cover the whole of England? And please don't say we've got an English parliament because we haven't.

  1. I agree to all comments above me. You can celebrate st. georges day, its just that you never choose too. The government didn't make much of an effort to increase the amount of people interested in st. georges day. The government spent £230 in the past 5 years promoting it. Is that all?? To me they don't seem to care.

In every country their government do only seem to care about a particular area. in england its generally the London area and in Wales the South are looked after much better than the north.

  2. You seem a little confused....

.....you say .."please don't say we've got an ENGLISH parliament because we haven't" ... no... you're right  - it's a UK Parliament!!!

While, in your previous sentence you say "All the current ENGLISH government care about is the South East" ... whilst I agree with that sentiment, I think you mean the UK Government???  - since there isn't an ENGLISH government.....

If you don't know the difference between the UK and England, do you think you should have an ENGLISH Parliament or Government?  Also, do you think wanting a day's holiday to celebrate St George's day is a good enough reason to make the effort to set up an English Parliament?

Anyway, what stops you personally from celebrating St. George's Day? - Oh you mean, your employer doesn't give you a day off for it??  But you do get a day off for St Patrick's Day - that's grand! - and you say you celebrate it in style - I'm sure the Irish will be pleased about that.....

In case you're unaware... St Andrew is the patron saint of Scotland.... St. Andrews day is a bank holiday in Scotland, but it doesn't entitle the Scots to a day off work either.  Nor do they automatically get St Paddy's Day or St George's Day either - must be the Presbyterian Work Ethic.    The people of Wales don't have a public holiday on St David's Day either.

FYI: There is no statutory right to time off for bank and public holidays. Any right to time off or extra pay for working on a bank holiday depends on the terms of an employee's contract of employment.

So.... I think your beef is with your employer, not the current (UK) government. - go whinge at them !!

  3. because you guys are like Americans, to the Scots Welsh and Irish, they all despise you English just like most of the world hates America because we both Dominate, Sorry if I offended anyone BUT ITS THE THRUTH!
