Why can't I access the setup page to my LINKSYS WAP54G ACCESS POINT?

i am trying to access the set up page per my wireless WAP54G access point so that i can upgrade the firmware but i can not. all firewalls are off including anti virus ..... i have check tcp/ip properties which are set to automatic.... yes i have tried to connect the access point directly to the my computer via Ethernet cable. then went into internet explorer to access 192.168.1.1all and it gave me the following information:

IP Address. . . . . . . . . . . . : 68.197.116.241

Subnet Mask . . . . . . . . . . . : 255.255.252.0

Default Gateway . . . . . . . . . : 68.197.116.1

DHCP Server . . . . . . . . . . . : 167.206.245.76

DNS Servers . . . . . . . . . . . : 167.206.245.130 & 167.206.245.129

i even tried accessing the default gateway (68.197.116.1) above and that does not bring me to the setup page of my access point. please help

um you do realize exposing your IP to the world is NOT a good thing...

Go to start/run and type cmd and enter. then type ipconfig and enter. This will show the correct address.

Why are you updating the firmware?  you should only update firmware if you are having a problem with the access point.  if you access point works fine, other than not being able to get to the setup page, I would just leave it alone.

Plug an Ethernet cable from your PC/Client to you WAP54G

Set the IP of your PC/Client to 192.168.1.240/255.255.255.0

You don’t need to setup any DNS or Gateway at this point.

Now open up your web browser and point it to http://192.168.1.245

At the login screen leave the user name blank and use admin as the password.

Now you can configure your WAP54G.

Once you have finished you can return your PC to its original IP settings.

Something to consider when setting up your WAP54G, setup the new IP address first or

last as you will need to change the address in your browser to match and you don’t want

to be doing that half way through your new setup.
