I am trying to back up my computer hard drive. I am using a new DVD-RW. I keep getting a message saying, "please insert a blank recordable disk in disk burner." Why?

  1. your cd drive most likely doesn't have dvd-rw capabilities. if you have a built in backup drive i suggest you use that. if not you might just have to use regular cd-rw disks. email me if you need any more help. and you need to make sure that the disc is large enough for the backup

  2. your windows on your computer is probably larger than 4.7 gigs.also what software are you using to back it up?or are you just drag and dropping?are you running xp or vista? have you burned dvds on this drive before?
