Question:

Why can't I breath when I'm in a pool?

Whenever I'm in a swimming pool just messing around it is very hard for me too breath. Usually the water is up to about my neck. It's like my chest feels like there is a bunch of weight on it and I can't breath deeply. I do have mild asthma but this doesn't seem like asthma would affect this. Why does this happen to me?

  1. The water may be putting too much pressure on you. My little brother has exercise-induced asthma, and whenever he swims it acts up. That could be your problem. Get it checked ou.

  2. that happened to me to. i got checked for it and they said it was vocal cord disfunction. it mimics the symptoms of ashma but ..... it could be ashma. so i would check with your allergy specialist or doctor. hope this helps

  3. your probably cloustrophobic...?

  4. It wouldn't be the pressure of the water at just a few feet underwater. If you dive to the bottom you may feel an ear squeeze that needs to be cleared. But, even diving down to 130 plus feet scuba diving, I haven't had a much pressure on my chest.

  5. Claustrophobia...that's all it is honey.

  6. hmm maybe if the pool is really cold. that happens to me when a pool  is cold.
