Question:

Why can't I connect to my neighbors internet?

Ok my neighbor and I share the same internet, but it wont let me connect, it will say local only and i don't know what is causing it, and when it does let me connect one day, the next it wont and might stay like this for a week, and i just don't how to fix it.

  1. I take it your running VISTA?  It would help to know.  The reason I say this, its a very very common VISTA issue.

    I have repaired mine a couple of times by simply "deleting the wireless adapter" in the system hardware then rebooting.. no real reason for the driver to get hosed but it has a couple of times.

    Do visit MS and get all the Vista updates.

    If its not vista then you may have a WinSock issue, just do a quick search for the XP fixes for WinSock problems.

  2. Go and have a chat to them, see if it is OK their end.

  3. You are on the fringe of their Internet radio bubble.  Sometimes you are in range, sometimes you aren't.  Just because you get enough signal to see their connection doesn't mean you have enough to connect.

  4. I'd ask them if they have any trouble.  Request that they try unplugging their router and modem for 10 seconds to reboot them.  Then reboot your computer and see if that fixes it.

    Otherwise if his computers are working I'm not sure what to suggest...
