Why can't I connect to the iTunes store?!?!?

It just says make sure your connection is active and I've tried all the steps like DNS flush etc.

Have you tried ensuring that ALL the necessary ports are open on a firewall as itunes store uses not HTML ports to access and download and share music.

Because this really sounds like you have a firewall issue thats blocking the port that the itunes store uses.

it needs the following ports free:-

52,53,4555,5291,6356,6385 and if using sharing of libraries:- 3689 & 5353

this can only be an issue on Windows machines as Macs automatically free these ports as they are designed with itunes as part of their basic set.
